Africa records more than a thousand deaths from Covid-19, while the cases of contagion are over 20 thousand. Very low numbers when compared with those of EU countries, Europe and even China. But the true extent of the epidemic on the continent still remains unknown because there are no tests, medical machinery and funds. The most worrying alarm is sent by a UN body, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), according to which the deaths could become "more than 300 thousand".
A figure that for the models developed by Imperial College London is the best scenario but only in the event that "intense" social distancing is implemented. For the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the continent needs another 44 billion dollars to fight the pandemic, because the freezing of debt payments for many countries and massive support aids are not enough.
